CVS- my transaction & opinion on new ad **updated**

In case you did not know, DFW is one of the test markets for CVS’ new sales dates (Friday through Thursday) as well as the new design of the ad itself. Personally…and as a graphic designer…I think the new ad would be a bad move. I guess not a lot of people may really care what an ad looks like, but then maybe they do? From what I have read online, the new ad has not had great reviews. It has been compared to dollar store ads…I have to say that it is a bit true. I compared the “new” (test ads) and the old (current) ads.

The ads are fine the way they are now, and look much classier! The new/test ads have bright yellow and orange and sometimes red gradient starbursts for prices that I think are just ridiculous. You look at the ad and everything yelling at you. The old/current ads have the nice “cvs shape” for their prices. The new ad also uses that shape but more modernized in some place (going along with the web 2.0, bubbly look) which I think is the best. (Go with this one CVS!) …ok so that’s my opinion, just wanted to get that out there!…what do you think?

With that said…here’s my transaction! :)

1 Dove Skin Vitalizer $9.99 sale
2 Maybelline Mascaras $4.99 sale
2 Luminous Cleanser Buy one get one 50%…one was $2.79 and one was $1.39

Coupons:
$2/$10 CVS coupon
2 $1 Maybelline mascara coupons
$2 CVS receipt coupon for skin care product
$3.50 Dove Skin Revitalizer
$5 CVS receipt coupon for Lumene product

Total after coupons: $9.65 not including tax
(also used my gift card for having a prescription filled there! Thank you CVS!)

RECEIVED ECBs: $3 for Dove Revitalizer (limit 5) & $4 for mascaras ($2 each, limit 5)

Theoretical OOP: $2.65

I wanted to get the 24pk Gold Emblem bottled water b/c they are on sale $3.99 and I have 2 $1 CVS coupons for them but the store I went to was out so I plan on checking my usual store today.

ok! Today I went and got the water! I did two transactions:

Transaction 1:
2 Airwick scented oil refills 2/$5
2 airwick scented oil plugins w/nightlight $1.79 each

COUPONS:
-$2/$10 CVS coupon
(2) -$1.79… used 2 coupons that for free airwick plug in with purchase of refill (=-$3.58)
-$1 off of 2 airwick refills

Total: $2.17 (on my cvs gift card)

Transaction 2
2 Gold Emblem 24 pk waters $3.99
2 sunsilk hair styler BOGO $4.29
M&Ms for jeremiah $1.49

COUPONS:
-$2/$10 CVS coupon
(2) -$1.50 Sunsilk Hair Styler coupons (=-$3; meaning i got 2 for $1.29)
-$1 Gold Emblem Water
-$2 Gold Emblem Water (ok I gave the guy this coupon from the magic coupon machine, actually I gave him 2 coupons for $1 off the water and this second was not working so he manually took it off. Apparently he took off $2…he was very kind and apologizing for it not scanning so I am not sure if it was intentional or not. But I just now noticed this as I’m reviewing my transaction!)

used $4 ECB

paid $1.76 (also with my gift card)

New to couponing at Kroger?
You must use your Kroger Plus Card to get store sales!
*Denton Krogers and double $.50 and under and triple $.35 & under
**Get even more coupons by registering your loyalty card at Shortcuts & P&G e-saver…these are coupons loaded directly to your card and are redeemed at checkout when your card is scanned. These can be used in conjunction with your paper coupons! These do NOT double and are only redeemable once.
***At any store, if something is on sale BOGO (buy one get one free), and you have a BOGO coupon as well, you can use your coupon to get them both free. This works because the store is giving you one and the one you buy is paid for by the manufacturer’s coupon. (Store policies may vary by location).
****When coupons are for more than the price of the product – it becomes a “money maker” however..some stores will adjust the coupon especially if it’s the only thing you are buying b/c your total cannot be negative! If you purchase an item and get overage make sure to also add in a “filler” item to cover the overage.

IP Coupons (Internet Printables)
–smartsource.com & coupons.com (please use the link on my blog!) You can print each coupon twice per computer. I am one of the people who cannot print at smartsource :( (I get the dreaded printer not available error) but I can print from Coupons.com but ONLY in Internet Explorer! So if you can’t get it to work, try different browsers.
