Thrifty Thursday – Spring Decorating

I put out some of my Spring decorations today and I wanted to share my thrifty tip! Seasonal decorations can be so expensive but I love shopping for them at the end of each season when they are on clearance. Last year I bought several Easter/Spring decorations – a couple easter egg trees, decorative easter eggs, etc. One of my easter egg trees had a couple eggs pulled off and the styrofoam center was actually broken at the top. With my handy hot glue gun and my scrapbooking flowers and brads, I repaired it and with the flowers added I actually like it better!

Our Home: Peace, Joy & Love

Are the fruit of the Spirit being seen in your home–love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control (Gal 5:22)?

I have noticed that my kids have been quite fussy and whiny the last few days. They have also been unkind. Yes they are boys and yes they are kids and they will have their little fights, but I am sensing that it is more than that right now.

Because of this, in my prayer time this morning I began praying peace and joy for our home and family. I prayed that God’s perfect peace would cover us and that the joy of the Lord would fill us. Because the kids have been so whiny and fussy, that is what I wanted to pray for- that they would have peace and joy. As I was praying (which involves listening!) I felt the Holy Spirit urge me to also pray for love…godly love. I was not sure what to pray exactly, because we are a family and we love each other. But as I obediently began praying for love, 1 Corinthians 13 came to mind. This is a passage we all know, but as you read it, think about it and your home and your family.

1 Corinthians 13:4-7
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

I know as I read it, I realized some of the things it says Love is NOT has been occurring in my home.
As a family, are we patient and kind with each other?
Are my kids behaving rudely or selfishly? Are they bragging?
Are we as parents easily angered?
All these things are not love. So I am praying godly love in our home and family. And we know that God is love (1 John 4:16), so if we are obeying and living for God we will love!

Operation : Organization Day 1

This week I am focusing on bringing order into my home. Specifically in organizing! I guess it I am in the Spring Cleaning mood!

I encourage you to take some time this week to bring order into your home by organizing something, whether it is organizing a junk drawer or closet, or organizing your day! I would love for you to post about it on your blog (you can use my Operation Organization graphic and link back here so people can follow) and share it on the mr. linky or you can just leave a comment. I’ll be posting each day because I am doing a project every day this week. (Some days probably simpler than others). You are welcome to do one day or everyday, whatever you like!

Today I focused on the playroom. A good friend of mine does a toy rotation and I decided I just had to initiate ours TODAY. Between 3 kids and Christmas/Birthdays, we have many toys and, believe it or not, they get to where they have too many to play with! The kids would just dump out baskets of toys to find the one they wanted. So, I weeded through the toys, tossing some and some were bagged to give away. I made a toy rotation of 3 ’sets’. Two bins and what is already out which we will rotate out. I will just do this when I see they are not playing with the toys they have very much. When I open the next box, I am sure they will be so excited to see toys they probably forgot about!

Here are some pics of the playroom clean up.
